This is on my mind

This tree blooms in early spring and no one seems to know its name.  Some call it a jade magnolia.
There is one in the small town I grew up in and my father told me its name a long time ago.  But I have forgotten.  Glorious and huge it is in full bloom for a week.

We don't have many trees with fragile blooms this large here.  In fact, magnolias have a hard time surviving.  Do you know what it is?

Mary I have a port wine Magnolia in my garden. The flowers are insignificant but the perfume is quite strong. I'd rather the one you have it's so pretty. I can't help you with the name for this one- maybe if you 'google' magnolia, you will find something.

It looks like what I have always been told is a tulip magnolia tree. We have them all over. If you google tulip (saucer) magnolia tree images maybe you can see...Good luck and beatiful pics!

I pulled out my "Botanical" book and yours appears to be Magnolia Campbellii OR Magnolia soulangeana (Saucer Magnolia). I'm thinking it's the second one as I have one in my front yard as well.

I have a tree like that in my yard. I've only known it as a magnolia...I never realized there were different types! I learned something new today. Great pictures.

What a beautiful tree.
We have similar ones in our area that I always admire and envy on my morning walk but I couldn't tell you the name of them.
Good luck with the sleuthing....

Not a clue but it is gorgeous.

The general consensus is a type of magnolia. Wonderful! I have only known the southern type that thrives south of here with the huge single blooms. Thanks to all of you!

What a beautiful tree!! and the pictures look gorgeous on your blog page. I did a little google search--i think that it might be a: Magnolia x soulangeana (japanese tulip magnolia)

Even if it's exact identity is uncertain it is one lovely tree, with gorgeous blooms - luckily beauty doesn't always need a name.

The flowers on that tree are gorgeous. Thank you for your comment on my post. I honestly have no idea what type of potatoes they are - they were some that had put out shoots from some I got from the supermarket. Regardless of their name they were fabulous.

No idea! It's stunning though, I would be staring at it all day long if it were in our garden! :)

Yes! Independent you and Becky are right. I recalled my father using a reference to Japan but I had forgotton the magnolia part.

That was the missing clue I needed to trigger my memory!
